Roger Wolfson- Taking a Glimpse of His Illustrative Career

Speeches are a vital aspect of the political landscape. In order to rise to the top of the political pyramid, all leaders and politicians have to be effective communicators. However, not all political aspirants can master the art of writing speeches that can effectively move and persuade an audience. Hence, they often hire professional speech writers like Roger Wolfson, who have the experience of writing powerful speeches. Wolfson has served as a full-time speechwriter for sitting U.S. Senators, as well as a part-time speechwriter for candidates at just about all levels of the U.S. political landscape, ranging from Governors to Presidents. He has also worked as a professional television and film writer, and has written for five network T.V. series.

People hear the speeches given by the great political leader and often remember their words for years long. However, not many know about the minds formulating these speeches. Roger Wolfson is one such individual. While he is best known for writing for T.V. Series like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Saving Grace, The Closer, and Century City, not many know how he has over the years has helped with the speeches of multiple U.S. politicians. In fact, he has been a staff to four U.S. Senators, Ted Kennedy, Paul Wellstone, John Kerry, and Joe Lieberman.

He mentions that his journey starts at Vassar College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. Subsequent to that, he went on to do his masters in Writing from Johns Hopkins University. He ultimately completed his law degree from the University Of Pennsylvania Law School. Wolfson’s very first political job after completing law school was in the Governmental Affairs Subcommittee of Senator Joe Lieberman. Soon after that, Senator John Kerry made him the youngest Legislative Assistant he had ever appointed, as well as his first official speechwriter.

After serving John Kerry for years, Wolfson became Chief Education Counsel for Senator Paul Wellstone. He simultaneously also served as a Labor Committee Staff for Senator Ted Kennedy. He highlights that during this period, he helped reauthorize almost every major federal education law, including the $12 billion Workforce Investment Act and the $5 billion Individuals with Disabilities Education. He additionally highlights that during the consideration of the $52 billion Higher Education Act alone he had developed 13 key amendments to the law, and even wrote the first federal funding bill for Charter Schools.

According to Roger Wolfson, at the age of 32 he decided to leave the Senate. At that point, he was one of the few staffers ever to work for the most prominent Conservative, Moderate and Liberal Senators in the Democratic Party.  He has also appeared on national channels like NBC, MSNBC and CNN, and partnered with Oscar-nominated songwriter Bird York and Oscar-winning producer, Bruce Cohen, for creating campaign ads. He additionally has lectured at forty different major organizations, think tanks, unions, and bar associations. Wolfson also is a columnist for The Huffington Post.
